Frequently Asked Questions + Resources

  • What if I don't remember my trauma?

Many clients have successfully healed from their trauma without disclosing details of what they’ve witnessed or experienced. I’ve had many clients that don’t remember, but their body does. Some people want to share (if they remember what happened), and that’s ok too, but it’s not required in order to get better. In sessions, we allow the body to show us what’s going on, what it remembers, and work through the trauma that way. Work can be done with evidence-based neuropsychological exercises, which balances the nervous system and alleviates symptoms of stress, anxiety, and depression. Brainspotting is very effective for those who don’t want to talk about what happened or don’t remember.

  • What is brainspotting?

Brainspotting locates points in your visual field to help to access unprocessed trauma in the subcortical brain. Where you look affects how you feel. Depending on your eye position, your body will show us where it’s activated and that is where the trauma is stored in the body. In brainspotting, we are discharging the trauma out of the central nervous system. For more information, click here

  • Is therapy really necessary, shouldn't I be able to handle my own issues?

Everyone experiences challenges of some kind throughout their life. We aren’t meant to work through it all alone. Even if we are facing a smaller challenge, we have this belief system in our society that we only go to therapy once we’re in pain. We wait until we have symptoms that are unbearable. It’s normal in the medical world to get preventative care. The same is true for mental health.. we can prevent those unbearable symptoms in many cases if we are willing to do preventive care. Even if we wait longer than we should have to start, the benefits can change your life in many areas and affect you positively for the long-term.

  • How can I prepare for my first session?

You can prepare for your first session by completing the intake paperwork provided upon scheduling. You will receive an email with login instructions to your secure client portal. Please complete the intake paperwork within 48 hours of scheduling your first appointment. This will help you reflect on what you’d like to work on and it also allows us to get to know each other in session, instead of time spent answering questions.
